Jumping Joint / SongSmith ft The Angel's Share

Jumping Joint was established in 2007 by Bristol musicians Helen Ditchburn and Quentin John Burton.  They set up the company to promote the interests of singer / songwriters after they had collaborated on the now defunct Bristol Acoustic Roots Singer / Songwriter Festival (though Jumping Joint still retain the rights to the name!)  They started with a single night at Mr Wolf's in November and it is still running every Monday with hardly a break even for Boxing Day.  After promoting at several venues around Bristol including St Bonaventures, The Mayors Arms (now a curry house), The Two Magpies (formerly the Richmond Springs now The Richmond) Que C's (now lord knows what) and working tirelessly Helen decided to take a break to focus on other projects (jewellery).

The company established the SongSmith brand now widely known across the city and just started up at The Bristol Fringe Café.  SongSmith nights have also run at No 51 (formerly The Junction) and Sasparillas and a whole festival weekend at The Louisiana.

The company has released one album, a compilation of various artists instigated by Helen of Songs about about the 2006 hurricane in New Orleans, and called Songs of Katrina.  It was largely recorded by Q in their own SongSmith Studios which also has worked with the likes of James Gale, Martin John, Jemma Rycroft, Ian Perry and Richard Burley.

The company started a new project (August 2012) to help 4 local singer / songwriters promote and support their endeavours.  Called The Angel's Share it also promotes events and other singer / songwriters both in Bristol and beyond.  Our latest venue in Bristol is The Three Sugar Loaves, aimed at acoustic acts.  It started in February 2013 and runs every Wednesday and includes Singing Suppers, themed songwriter nights and free food!
